Multiple Affected as Rough Air Impacts Delta Plane into Sydney

A number of individuals have been injured following a Delta Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Sydney experienced turbulence on Friday morning.

Delta Flight 41 "experienced a brief period of turbulence" as it landed at Sydney Airport, a company official informed. A number of the onboard staff sustained injuries.

Emergency medical services stated they assessed a total of five people, and transported a trio to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that such as back pain and head pain. The patients' ages were between their thirties and seventies.

This marks the latest incident of aircraft encountering severe turbulence, with aviation specialists pointing out that shifting climate patterns is a significant contributor.

On board were 245 passengers and 15 crew members on the Airbus A350, the official noted, clarifying that the plane touched down "safely and normally" at the airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.

Emergency responders said they got a call just three minutes before the plane touched down, and response teams were waiting on the tarmac.

Why in-flight bumpiness is growing more common - and often stronger.

Last year, twenty-five passengers and crew were hurt when a Delta Airlines flight, on a route from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, Netherlands, experienced "severe" atmospheric disturbance just 120 minutes into the long-haul flight, and had to make an emergency landing.

Earlier this year, those on board on a Singapore Airlines flight went through a terrifying brief five-second period of extreme instability. A traveler passed away and dozens were injured, as unbelted passengers were thrown from their seats and were slammed back.

Turbulence is fairly routine during flights, and while occurrences of rough conditions are reportedly becoming more frequent, they are remained quite uncommon.

Data suggests that there are an estimated thousands of instances of severe or worse turbulence each year, out of a sum of more than 35 million journeys that are conducted worldwide.

Intense turbulence is described as when the up and down movements of a plane experiencing unstable air generate greater than a significant G-force on your body - a strong enough force to propel you from your seat if you were not fastened by a safety belt.

As climate change modifies the conditions in the sky, experts warn that air travel could become more turbulent: temperature changes and changing jet streams in the upper atmosphere are projected to increase the frequency and intensity of severe turbulence.
